Proverb 19 reminds me, it is not what I DO that will cause me trouble, it is first what I STOP DOING that will create the trouble.
Discipline (Its root word being Disciple), especially Spiritual Discipline, should not be so hard.
However, it can be the last thing we find time to work on.
I can not tell you how many times I have heard someone tell me “I don’t have enough time” to just sit, be still, and listen for 5 minutes, so they can know.
They just don’t have that extra 20 minutes in a day.
- 10 for reading the Word
- 5 for prayer, and
- 5 for listening for HIS response.
Yet somehow there is found enough time in the day to get coffee to drink from our favorite Kiosk, enough time to go and work out our body, or enough time to entertain ourselves with our phones, social media, TV and more.
But not enough time to drink in the Word, and to work out our relationship with God by having communication with HIM (Both talking AND listening!)
There is an exercise I have done many times with the guys in my ministry;
We sit quietly, saying nothing, for 2 minutes.
It is a LONG 2 minutes! It is one of the most difficult exercises to sit through.
The silence is very heavy and awkward for the guys who are not used to slowing down, they are not used to the quiet, not used to the noise and hurried pace that our culture (enemy) wants to keep us in.
But I know, as Proverbs 19 tells us, that we can ALL
- Take that quiet time,
- Read the Word,
- Sit and listen, and to
- BE STILL AND KNOW.
I love you guys!
