Brainwashing

The definition of the word ‘brainwashing’ in the dictionary is:

brainwashing
/ˈbrānˌwôSHiNG/
noun
  1. the process of pressuring someone into adopting radically different beliefs by using systematic and often forcible means.
    victims of brainwashing”

But this is not an absolute.
This is not always true.

We all know this verse;

    Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind
   • Romans 12:2

This is a great verse, and many Christians know it by heart.
However, the word in this verse today I’d like to focus on is ‘renewal‘.

This verse is specifically saying that our minds need to be transformed by renewal.
OK…but renewed from what?
From the WORLD.

Before we had a knowing mind, and really accepted Christ into our lives, (and it doesn’t matter how young you were when you received Christ, because we ALL had a life ‘before’ Christ.), we were not WITH Christ.

And as Jesus Himself said in Matthew 12:30;
He who is not with Me is against Me.

Well, we ALL were.

 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.  • Colossians 1:21

So then, since it appears we have to transform our minds.
To clean them up.
Brainwashing can actually be a GOOD thing!

Our minds have been dirty, sometimes out and out FILTHY.
Everyone, even those who have accepted Christ fight this battle.
Because it IS a war!

Because of that, The Word tells us to defend our minds like that.
Like a soldier. Like a warrior.

  ☆ We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ   • 2 Corinthians 10:5

This is extremely important, and very critical.
Please remember this;
Just because someone is in a church, and say they are a Christian, does not always make it so.

I have heard way too many people say they accept Christ from their mouths.
But, by their actions, I can easily see that those same people do not believe in their hearts that Jesus Christ died for their sins, and is their Lord.

Too many pop & rock musicians, TV & movie stars, social influencers and politicians do that.
Sadly, their cultural importance can make a big impact, and lead the young or weak believer away from God.

But those are the easy ones to spot. Washed outside, but obviously dirty inside.

But the real believers have a change, a transformation, and are moved to be different.
They will be set apart, and that is something that ‘should’ be easy to spot.

Unfortunately, too many Christians don’t want that change. They like their porn, judgementalism, bitterness, lust, gluttony, selfishness, pride, gossip…etc.

        – Too many butts are in
        – Too many seats in
        – Too many churches whose
Brains have NOT been washed.

Since this dirt that needs to be washed is on the inside, it can be very hard to see by others. That can make it hard for others to be able to help, to counsel, or to minister to.
That is deadly, and eternally serious.

    The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
   • 2 Corinthians 4:4

The scriptures tell us to be warriors of our mind.
Warriors always keep their weapons ready and clean.

We need to keep our minds ready and never stop the process of cleansing it.

The Word tells us the best way to stay away from the worlds version of brainwashing;

    Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
   • Colossians 3:2

Well, that ‘sounds’ easy, but…
Ya, you’re right. It is simple, but it is NOTeasy.

So, how do we do it?
The Bible

Remember, Gods Word is the Soap we need to cleanse us in our brainwashing.

Stay in the Word.
Read The Truth.
Learn Gods love.
Then do it again, and again, and again.

    Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
   • Philippians 4:8

Practice does not make perfect.
Perfect practice makes perfect.

Because we can practice it the wrong way, a bad way, a deadly way, and have it down, but the wrong way.

So, how do we ‘set our minds?’
Continuous perfect practice.
and what is that?

Daily discipline of;
     Bible Reading
     Prayer
     Meditation
     Fellowship

Why?
Because then the very next verse from our last passage tells us why.

    Put these things into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
   • Philippians 4:9

Brainwashing – cleansing your thoughts.
Being transformed by the RENEWING of your mind.
THAT is how cleanliness is next to Godliness

I love you guys.
