Drop the Rock
There was a funny movie years ago called; ‘Liar Liar’, where Jim Carey played a lawyer who, in one scene, was beating himself up to get out of a court appearance. When someone saw him and asked what he was doing, he said; “I’m kicking my ass!”.
Now, funny as that line is, it is also very sad too. Why…? Because that is what we do to ourselves. We beat ourselves down by loading up on worry, fear, anxiety and so much more, loading it all on our backs like huge boulders. But the worst part, is that we don’t realize, that at any time we can just Drop the Rock!
Drugs, Alcohol, Porn, all the other addictions and also just the human behaviors that we can use to cover up those ‘real’ issues we have in our lives, are NOT a new thing.
God knew that we needed to drop the rock from the beginning!

The troubles of the world, and the culture of the world, are causing so many people great anxiety today.
And that is exactly how the enemy wants it!
When we believe that our identity needs to be defended, when our pride is strong, and our self righteousness is acted out by us, then bitterness, anger, and all of the other self centered behaviors that always accompany it, will become very severe and damaging in our lives as a consequence of it.
These behaviors WILL burden us, just like huge boulders on our backs!
So, think on this;
Everyone of those rocks has a name on them, and who would want to go into a new year carrying that huge load of unnecessary and UN-Christ like bunch of ‘ME’ rocks on their backs, when what that does is force you to find YOU rocks, so you can throw them at others?
Especially when God promises you that, if only you call out to HIM, HE will provide you freedom from all of that?
☆ I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you.
• Psalm 81:6-7
But – that will take something from you, to get that something from Him;
What will it take from you?
Surrender.
To drop the rock.
To let go of;
– The need to defend
– The need to be right
– Unforgiveness
– Self-Righteousness
– Selfishness
– Pride
When that rock is dropped, when that surrender to God is achieved, the peace that surpasses all understanding fills us.
And when we have that peace:
– We don’t have to defend our identity.
– We don’t have to always be right
– We Forgive easily
– We have Mercy & Grace
– We Esteem Others more than ourselves
But the most important, the foundation that makes it ALL possible is HUMILITY.
☆ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
• 1 Peter 5:6-7
So,
Let us start 2023 without the burden of ‘SELF’.
Let us humbly surrender to God and walk in HIS peace.
Let us all just…drop the rock.
And let HIS love shine through us as an example to everything and everyone around us.
